RVCA was founded by PM Tenore and originated in Costa Mesa, California. In 2001, Pat Tenore had an idea, jotted it down on a napkin, and launched what would soon become RVCA from his garage. The premise at the brand's inception was "the balance of opposites," and his concept was to integrate different subcultures within one platform by connecting a diverse network of individuals with a common thread. The company is an original combination of art, music, fashion and a modern lifestyle. At the forefront of this goal has been RVCA's Artist Network Program (ANP) - a venture established to showcase both renowned and relatively unknown artists. The U and A stand for United Artists. The logotype for RVCA portrays the letter A without a crossbar. This leaves it looking like an arrow pointing up while the letter V is an arrow pointing down. The R and the C stand for Recession Collection.
